GLUTEAL AUGMENTATION (Buttock implants)

Gluteal or buttock implants are used to fill out the buttock area and to lift this area in the case of medium skin flacidity. They are shaped specifically to augment the gluteus maximus muscle area producing a more desirable shape to the glutes (buttocks). The shape of the buttocks is determined by the fullness of the 3 gluteal muscles (gluteus maximus, gluteus medius and gluteus minimus) and by the angle of the lumbosacral curve at the base of the spine (triangle visible from behind). Deficiency in muscle mass or in the angle of the curve of the lower spine can be responsible for a small projection of the butt which some patients experience as non sufficient in relation to the rest of their body. Additionally, the buttocks are an area that retains some body fat which contributes to the prominence of the buttock cheeks. Many physically active people who work out to lower their general body fat will loose the fat of the gluteal areas and find that the projection of the buttocks decreases due to this.

Balance is the key to a desirable result. For the man or woman who is unable to achieve their idealized buttock shape, buttock implants (gluteal implants) can be a solution. Those implants are placed under the muscle of each buttock area through a single incision overlying the tailbone, butt implants are positioned to look as natural as possible for the optimal cosmetic effect.

Being an area of the body that every patient uses for walking, sitting, climbing stairs and so many other movements, patients might experience greater discomfort and pain during the recovery period than with other common cosmetic surgery procedures like breast augmentation or liposuction , and the recovery time is usually a bit longer (2-3 weeks).The pain medications prescribed to help with the discomfort and pain, but the patient has to consider app. 5-7 days before returning to be up and about; moving, walking, and sitting more comfortably.

There is generally some swelling and bruising after buttock augmentation so the final results may be seen only 2-3 after surgery. Full physical activities are usually permitted within a month after surgery.

Surgical risks may include:
infection, bleeding, nerve and/or muscle damage, slippage and asymmetry.
